Looking for an antiseptic cream? Try honey for a change. Honey has an excellent track record for clearing infections in wounds and protecting wounds from becoming infected.
Honey was reportedly used as long ago as 4,000 BC as an antiseptic agent. In recent years it has been rediscovered, with scientists carrying out a range of research projects on its medicinal properties.
As well as clearing up infections, it also reduces inflammation, swelling, and pain, according to the Waikato Honey Research Unit in New Zealand. Tests reveal that honey can heal infected wounds that haven't responded to other antibiotic and antiseptic treatments.
